Why Should I Use Deaf Services Center For My "Real Time Captioning" Needs?
In what settings can I use Real Time Captioning?
What is C-Print ® Captioning?
C-Print ® is a computer-aided speech-to-text real-time captioning system that was developed at the National Technical Institute for the Deaf (NTID), a college of Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), as an access service option primarily for individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing. C-Print ® can be used in educational settings, meetings and workshops and with individuals with other disabilities.
A trained C-Print ® captionist produces text through abbreviated keyboard typing. In general, C-Print ® provides a meaning-for-meaning translation of the spoken English content. American Sign Language (ASL) interpreters similarly provide a meaning-for-meaning interpretation from spoken English to ASL. C-Print ® captionists provide comparable meaning-for-meaning translation from spoken English to text which enables individuals to have access to communication visually rather than through auditory means.
How does WORDFLY work?
Deaf/Hard of Hearing consumer is in his/her meeting as normal with a laptop computer, and sets up in the vicinity of the speaker, connecting an external microphone to their computer. After setting up their laptop, the attendee logs into the online “classroom” via the internet, using a provided email link.
As the speaker/instructor speaks, the voice is being sent via the internet to the captionist who is offsite.
The captionist then captures the spoken word in C-Print ®. The attendee, being logged into our website, can view the captions being produced by the captionist. This gives him/her full access to the communication in the room.
